“In all, the Alliance met with nearly 40 legislative offices representing 15 states," stated Mary Lou Bosco, COO, AIM North America.

“The Budget Cuts, Counterfeiting, and Barcodes briefing was well received and focused on barcodes – Item Unique Identification – and how the technology is being used to reduce costs, improve management, increase readiness, and combat counterfeiting within the Department of Defense. Two Senators and three Representatives were present and gave remarks in support of the IUID effort and the UID Supplier Alliance,” said Sam Wainer, Product Manager, Horizons ISG.
DoD’s Item Unique Identification (IUID) policy was designed to provide individual identification of assets in a way that is globally unique and ensures data integrity and quality throughout an item’s life. Adoption of UID (the next generation barcode) and awareness of the value added by the requirements are gaining momentum thanks to the efforts of the AIM North America UID Supplier Alliance. This group intends to bolster that momentum in Washington, DC where they recently gathered for briefings on IUID issues, and continue to meet with Congressional, Senate, and government agency offices.
